TOP GUN 2: MAVERICK IS BACK!
BY ALI PARACHA
About 33 years after the original Top Gun hit theaters, Tom Cruise will be back in his flight suit as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for Top Gun 2, officially titled Top Gun: Maverick. Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on the sci-fi action film Oblivion, will be handling directing duties. Here’s everything about Top Gun: Maverick you need to know.
“Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one, but a progression for Maverick,” Cruise told Access Hollywood in June 2017 about the film. The story will be set in the present day and will deal with Cruise’s Maverick and his fellow group of fighter pilots as modern technology starts changing their jobs.
Crew members and actors from in front and behind the camera from Top Gun will be returning for the sequel including German composer Harold Faltermeyer, who will be updating his now-famous film score. Also, just like in the first film, Tom Cruise will have a badass motorcycle, check out a look at the new ride here. Cruise is ready to ride again, and he’s training hard for it—including working to fly actual planes in the film.
The Cast: Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Manny Jacinto, and Ed Harris
The Director: Joseph Kosinski, who worked with cruise on Oblivion.
The Plot: Here's the official synopsis from Paramount: "After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it."
Release day: May 27th 2022, the movie was set to be released in 2019 but then got further delayed due to some reasons till 2020 but due to the unfortunate covid-19 Arrival movie release again got delayed but now the wait is almost over as it about to hit the cinema screens finally, the excitement is real maverick fans all around the globe are geared up...
Tom Cruise Might Fly Actual Aircrafts
Tom Cruise is no stranger to doing his own stunts, and Top Gun: Maverick is no different. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cruise “has gone through extensive training for the film and will do some of his own flying ‘in certain aircrafts.’” While he won't be able to fly the actual jets due to government regulations about civilians doing that, it looks like Cruise will be going airborne.
Jon Hamm Says the Film Is Shooting in 6K
The film is using some top-level tech to shoot the movie. Jon Hamm spoke with Collider about how it's being done. "They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen. We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs...I think it’s gonna be, for the people who love the first movie I think it’s gonna’ be very interesting to watch. It very much takes the story in a different direction. But I think for the new fans it’s gonna be something very cool, too. I’ve seen some of the footage, it is out of this world."
The Classic '80s Music Will Be Back
The first Top Gun had music that was as memorable as the fantastic action scenes, with a now-iconic score from composer Harold Faltermeyer and now-classic songs, including “Danger Zone” from Kenny Loggins (pictured in gallery) and “Take My Breath Away” from Berlin, Giorgio Moroder, and Tom Whitlock.
For the sequel, both Faltermeyer and Loggins will be back to update their musical stylings for a new generation. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Faltermeyer will be returning, while Loggins told TMZ: “I met Tom Cruise on [The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon], and I asked him that question,” Loggins said. “He said, ‘Of course, we have to use ‘Danger Zone.’ I’m hoping to do it, maybe as a duet with a young act. I’d love to work with, well, there’s young and then there’s young. We have some feelers out to some pretty cool rock acts.”
Tom Cruise's Maverick Is a Mentor
Cruise will be front and center again for the Top Gunsequel, and this time around he will be in more of a mentor role, possibly for Goose’s son, played by Miles Teller. Variety reported that Maverick will be a flight instructor in the sequel, which will cover how modern technology has affected the world of fighter pilots.....
